Research in the late 1980's identified a method of producing TECHNITUBER^® seed, a new seed potato propagule, diameter of 12-15mm and weight 1.5 gm, produced from pathogen tested tissue culture. TECHNITUBER^® technology is revolutionising potato production by reducing the time required to produce large volumes of high-grade seed material.

The process enables potato industry to rapidly expand the existing seed base. It also helps in genetic improvements and in fast track introduction of new potato breeding lines. The combined effect of large-scale production of TECHNITUBER^® seed, and the use of advanced agronomy practices means that high-grade seed potatoes will now be possible within two field generations, at affordable prices.
